Other German institutions that participate include the Institute for Latin American Studies of the Free University of Berlin, the Institut für Romanistik, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, and the University of Potsdam. The Mexican counterparts for this project comprise the Colegio de México (COLMEX), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Research Center and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS). The financing is envisioned to last through mid-2018.
Moreover, three Mexican universities are part of the program “Exceed: University Excellence in Cooperation for Development”. Within the framework of this program, German universities are jointly financed with their partner universities in developing nations for the purpose of attaining innovative and efficient contributions for implementing objectives centered on political development.
Participating Mexican universities include the University of Guadalajara (with its counterpart the Braunschweig University of Technology) in the field of water management. The Autonomous University of Yucatan works not only with the University of Kassel, but also has additional partners in Brazil, Asia, and Africa through ICDDs – International Centres for Development and Decent Work. The University of San Luis Potosí cooperates with the Technische Hochschule Köln and partners in Jordan, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Egypt, Chile, Brazil, Nepal, Indonesia, Kenya, Bangladesh and Sudan in matters pertaining to Natural Resources and Development. The most recent cooperation project comprises, among other aspects, a bi-national master’s degree program in Environment and Resources Management for Latin American and German Young Professionals (ENREM), jointly financed with DAAD through the International Program for Postgraduate Studies Related to Development.
In addition, the University of Guadalajara offers the master’s degree in “Deutsch als Fremdsprache: Intercultural Studies on German Language, Literature and Culture”, with dual validity together with the University of Leipzig. This cooperation is financed within the framework of DAAD Germanistik Partner Institutes.
